Transportation Network Modeling Committee (ADB30)

Scope

E-mail Print PDF
The committee will promote research and information exchange in transportation network modeling, an interdisciplinary field spanning Computer Science, Logistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, Telecommunications, and Transportation Science. The committee will also focus on: the understanding and modeling of the technological and behavioral factors affecting the performance of transportation systems; modeling the interactions between the infrastructure and transportation networks; and the development and use of models to evaluate the quantity and quality of transportation facilities and services. The committee will serve as a focus for the development, adaptation, and implementation of quantitative and computer-based methodologies for the above purposes. The committee will cut across traditional modal boundaries, seeking unifying conceptual and methodological frameworks, yet highlighting modal differences. As such, it will foster effective and rapid sharing of information and experiences among researchers, practitioners, regulators and decision makers.

Workshop

The ITS Joint Program Office  (JPO) of the Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) of the USDOT is holding a Workshop for University Researchers April 28-29, 2010 in Washington, D.C. at USDOT Headquarters.  In general, we are looking for ways that the ITS JPO can work collaboratively with your university as the new ITS Strategic Research Plan is implemented in the 2010-2014 timeframe.   The ITS Strategic Research Plan is designed to achieve a vision of a national, multi-modal surface transportation system that features a connected transportation environment among vehicles, the infrastructure and passengers’ portable devices.  This connected environment will leverage technology to maximize safety, mobility and environmental performance.    View the ITS Strategic Plan and related documentation (url - http://www.its.dot.gov/strat_plan/index.htm).

Workshop topics to be discussed include: Technical Areas of the Research Program and Application Development; Data Usage as it applies to the Strategic Plan; Environmental Applications; IntelliDriveSM Policies; Safety Applications; and Road Weather Applications.

In addition to attending the workshop in person, there will be an option to attend via webinar.  In person registration is limited and will be confirmed on a first come basis.  Please register at http://www.pcb.its.dot.gov/workshops/april28-10.asp to attend in person or via webinar.  Once registration is confirmed, we will provide an agenda and more information.  The hotel registration deadline to receive the government rate is April 13, 2010.  Please contact Mac Lister at 202 366-0375 or mac.lister@dot.gov if you have any questions. We look forward to hearing from you.
